What is the format of the exam?
The exam consists of 3 blocks with 35 questions in each block (105 total questions). The style is similar to the NBME Step exams. The exam is timed so that this information can be included in your exam analysis report. You may adjust the total time allowed for you to complete the exam.

What feedback do I get?
A summary report is provided following the conclusion of your exam. Each exam has a different focus, which you can see from the following sample summary reports: Diagnostic version SUMMARY report for Diagnostic Tests A B C. In addition, the complete solutions and references are provided for Diagnostic A (see sample) and Diagnostic D (see sample). The references are provided for all versions of the exam. For Tests B, C, D and E we STRONGLY RECOMMEND that as you take the exam, you maintain a record of your answers during your test. That will allow you to compare your answers with the correct answers you will access in the Answers and References section after completion of the exam. For Diagnostic A, we show both the correct answer AND your answer BUT this function is NOT available in the other tests.

Do I have to complete all three blocks at one sitting?
No, you can log off the website or close your browser and return at a later time to finish any additional blocks.

How much time do I have to complete the blocks?
By default, you have 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete all three blocks. However, you may change that time by entering a value in the "Multiply timers by" box. For example, entering 1.5 in this box would multiply the timers by 1.5, giving you 4 hours and 45 minutes to complete the exam. You have access to the exam for 30 days after your initial purchase. The answers/references and reports do not expire, so you may access them at any time.

First, check to see if you are on the last question in the block. If so, hit the key in the upper right hand corner to exit the block. If your computer experiences some problem, you may close your browser or just turn off your computer. When you restart, log on again and resume the exam. You will be back where you left off.

What should I do if I get exceptionally nervous when I am taking any test, including this diagnostic?
Practice some form of "warm up" or relaxation technique. Some test-takers take a brisk walk before an exam; others listen to relaxing music or a relaxation audio. We offer a customized relaxation audio on our website. Whatever you choose, practice your relaxation technique before each practice exam close to your actual boards. It can make a big difference.
